What is Anti-Glare Glass?

Anti glare tempered glass

Figure 1 – Sample image of what an anti-glare glass looks like

Also referred to as non-glare glass, is a type of glass that’s etched on one (1) or both sides of the glass’s touching surface. From its term alone, anti-glare glass is the glass you want to use if you want to diffuse glare when it reaches the surface.

Most anti-glare glass units provide evenly, matching, and uniform surfaces for applications that require high resolutions.

What Are the Advantages of Anti-Glare Glass?

Large size glass panels

Figure 2 – Anti-glare glass products can be used in a wide range of business sectors and industries

Using anti-glare glass has its benefits and advantages, regardless of what application you have for it.

Here at SXET, we can produce the best and highest quality of anti-glare glass for you. Among the most common pros, benefits, and advantages you can get from our products include:

  • It has low reflection and high resolution, which offers a better viewing experience
  • Fully flexible and completely versatile, you can use it in different applications
  • It does not become highly reflective
  • They’re fingerprint, smudge, and moist-resistant
  • For eyeglasses, they’re able to reduce eye strain and headaches because of high light intensity
  • And many more!

Generally, the primary benefit of anti-glare glass revolves around the fact that it does not absorb glare, and it’s able to withstand high amounts of intense light.

How Does Anti-Glare Glass Work?

Glass lens

Anti-glare glass products work by equalizing and distributing light intensity that’s reflected from both inner and outer surfaces of the glass unit.

This results in a dramatic reduction of glare on the glass surface, and at the same time, offers better contrast definition, as well as rise substrate brightness and transmission over a particular range of wavelength.

Can You Print on Anti-Glare Glass?

Anti reflective glass glazing

Figure 3 – You can print on the edges or on the surface of anti-glare or non-glare glass units

Yes, printing on anti-glare glass is actually possible, with the help of silk screen printing processes, skills, and technology. Although general prints are required to produce high-quality images and products, we’re never limited to regular skills and products here at SXET.

We use state-of-the-art and cutting-edge technology in the processing of anti-glare glass units. We’re able to produce prints and images in a wide variety of colors and shades, perfect for what you need!

Can You Drill Anti-Glare Glass?

Yes, just like any other type of glass unit, you can drill and puncture holes through anti-glare glass units.

Anti-glare glass

Figure 4 – An anti-glare glass product that’s been drilled with specific holes

Do take note, though, that the process of drilling anti-glare glass units would be far and different from the process of drilling regular glass.

More often than not, anti-glare glass units are rather stronger, harder, and crisper than regular glass units – they can get brittle compared to untreated glass or regular float glass, that’s in order to drill anti-glare glass, you’ll need a special type of device or machine to complete the process.

What Are the Features of Anti-Glare Glass?

Anti-glare glass has a ton of features, especially in terms of application and use in the industrial sector. Here are some of the other features you’ll get when you choose anti-glare glass over regular float glass:

  • They can effectively disperse and distribute high light intensity
  • It can reduce blur and unclear vision (for eyeglasses)
  • They’re an effective component for applications that require light absorption
  • They’re completely smudge and fingerprint-resistant
  • Ideally, they’re stronger and more durable because of the added content

We here at SXET Glass has been the best and most reliable manufacturer of all different types of non-glare glass products in the market. All these features you see above? – You can expect our glass units to have it.

Anti-Glare Glass vs. Regular Clear Glass

The comparison between anti-glare glass and regular float glass/clear glass has been a long debate ever since the creation of the former.

But, how do they really compare and differ from one another? Let’s separate them by using a table that contains all features of both so we can have a better sense of it.

Anti-Glare (AG) Glass or Non-Glare Glass Regular Untreated Clear Glass (Float Glass)
Guaranteed stronger (because of tempering and annealing) Requires further processes to be stronger and more durable
Contains special properties that would diffuse and distribute light intensity successfully Absorbs light and would glare up if the intensity is too much
Requires procedures and processes to create and manufacture Follows the simple procedure of making regular float glass
Has specific uses and applications across various business sectors and industries Can be used as alternatives or replacements for other materials

You’ll always be able to tell whether what you’re dealing with is a regular clear glass/float glass or anti-glare glass because of its texture, smoothness, and its physicality.

Anti-Glare Glass vs. Anti-Reflective Glass

AG glass

Figure 5 – An example of what an anti-reflective (AR) glass looks like

Now that we’re fully aware of the differences between float glass or regular clear glass and anti-glare glass, let’s now dig deeper into the differences and distinctions between anti-reflective (AR) glass and anti-glare glass.

For you to understand it better, here’s a table that you can use to see and identify distinguishing factors of both products.

Anti-Glare (AG) Glass or Non-Glare Glass Anti-Reflective Glass (AR)
Used to ensure that the visibility of light is minimized Used to ensure that the reflectivity, due to the light is minimized
Main purpose is to diffuse light that bounces or the hits the surface of the glass Main purpose is to eliminate reflection when light hits or touches the surface of the glass
Achieved by diffusing or etching small acid particles on the glass Done by disrupting the wave pattern to eliminate reflection from the surface
Typically used for POS, ATMs, cash registers, medical equipment, advertising screens, etc. Used for windshields, solar panels, instruments, mobile devices, displays, etc.

Both products are similar in nature of the application, but they have distinctive features and they offer varying results. So, with these things, you can now easily determine if what you need is an anti-reflective (AR) glass or non-glare or anti-glare (AG) glass.

Fret not, because, we here at SXET will give you the assistance and guidance you need in determining if what you need is an anti-glare (AG) glass, anti-reflective (AR) glass, or regular float (regular clear) glass.

Does Anti-Glare Glass Block Blue Light?

Etching borosilicate glass

Figure 6 – Anti-glare (AG) glass does not always have a blue-light blocking effect/feature

No, not all industrial. non-glare glass units have the capability of blocking the blue light. The primary purpose of anti-glare glasses is to equalize the distribution of glare (intense light) to the surface.

On the contrary, the property of blue light being blocked requires a type of glass engineered to block a particular part of the spectrum of visible light.

However, some manufacturers, like us here at SXET, offer anti-glare glass units that you can also use to block blue light.

How Do You Manufacture Anti-Glare Glass?

Manufacturers and suppliers follow different processes in producing anti-glare glass.

But here at SXET, our manufacturing process is so comprehensive that it has since become a blueprint and a guide for other suppliers and manufacturers as well.

Step 1: Cutting Process

Setting aside the gathering or collecting of the raw products or materials, the first step is to cut the raw glass material into the size or shape the client wants and needs it to be.

At SXET Glass, we utilize various specialized cutting tools to precisely and accurately cut and size raw glass products. We’re equipped with automated and programmable equipment for faster, easier, and more convenient processing.

Step 2: Glass Edging Process

After being cut to the sizes wanted and needed by clients, the new pieces are then performed glass edging, the process in which all of its sharp and rough edges are removed.

This is done for the safety of handling. Not only that, but it is also done by businesses for the cleanliness for the overall polishing of the product before it’s processed more and deeper.

Step 3: Hole Drilling Process (If Needed)

Should our clients need specific holes produced for faster usage and mobility, we perform hole drilling for them. Hole drilling simply is the procedure in which we produce holes on the surface of the anti-glare glass.

For this procedure, we use specialized and automated power drills to produce and puncture the surface of the glass with the holes needed.

Step 4: Glass Refining

After this, the holes are cleaned from all the debris left from the process, and the surface is cleaned and smoothened, too.

This process, also commonly referred to as glass cleansing, is actually where the process of making the glass anti-glare begins.

Step 5: Tempering/Strengthening (Tempered Processing)

When the glass is cleaned and refined and it’s not, in any way, dangerous for the workers and people who would be handling it, the glass unit is strengthened and reinforced.

Tempering is the process of heating the glass up and cooling it down in an orderly manner to make it stronger, harder, and more resistant to any physical inconsistencies that could happen to glass products.

Step 6: Etching/Acid Etching

When the glass unit is hard and tempered, then it will now undergo the acid etching procedure to produce the anti-glare layer that it is purposely made for.

The process is simple, the glass product will be annealed and treated with hydrofluoric acid to produce a frosted-like surface, which will then be used as the layer that would effectively disperse and diffuse glare, hence, anti-glare glass.

Step 7: Quality Inspection

Since the unit is annealed, it’ll need to cool down and be finalized first before being touched and handled again.

After all of those are done, the conclusive process we perform would be to check and inspect the glass overall to see if it’s within the quality expected.

This procedure has been what we’ve followed since the birth of our mass or wholesale anti-glare glass production. Many businesses and companies have considered it their pillars of growth for them and for their businesses.

Can You Make Custom Anti-Glare Glass?

Custom anti glare glass

Figure 7 – An example of a non-glare acrylic (PP) sheet

Most manufacturers and suppliers of anti-glare glass units focus on the production of custom units for the specific benefit of their clients’ applications.

So, yes, you can order and have custom anti-glare glass units made. For most non-glare glass manufacturing companies, though, they’ll require a blueprint or a draft of the design of the product you’re looking for.

This would be the only requirement for them to be able to produce custom anti-glare glass units for you.
